One of the greatest resources available for art lovers
and collectors lies just 45 minutes north of metropolitan
New Orleans in historic Covington, La. Founded in 1813,
it has maintained its special small town charm through
extensive preservation efforts. One of the newest additions
to Covington is the Brunner Gallery building located
at 215 N. Columbia Street, the center of the historic
district. The building features contemporary architectural
elements designed and fabricated by artists. This fine
arts gallery houses a comprehensive collection of local,
regional and national artwork.
Brunner Gallery was founded in November, 1997 by Rick
and Susan Brunner. Louisiana-born artist Rick Brunner
is noted for his work as a sculptor and furniture maker.
Susan Brunner, also a Louisiana native, specializes
in art placement and consulting for both residential
and commercial spaces. Both Rick and Susan bring their
diverse backgrounds in art together to celebrate a
unified vision for their gallery. It is their hope
that Brunner Gallery inspires the viewer with unique
and provocative artwork created by contemporary artists.
Brunner Gallery represents a variety of media including
original paintings, printmaking, ceramic, sculpture,
photography, mixed media and sculptural furniture.
It carries a range of contemporary art spanning such
styles as abstract expressionism, impressionism and
primitive. Exotic wood turned bowls, large hand built
clay vessels and sculptural shields are among some
of the most unusual treasures found in Brunner Gallery.
Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m. Exhibits rotate frequently and receptions are
held at the beginning of each exhibition. Receptions
are open to the public. See exhibit
schedule for details.
